NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 10-year-old boy faces a charge of disturbing schools for bringing a BB gun to school, North Charleston Police say.
Police responded to A.C. Corcoran Elementary School at approximately 12:40 p.m. The school's administrator and an officer searched the boy's book bag and found a plastic BB gun with black grips and an orange tip, the incident report states.
The student told police a friend had given him the gun the night before at the friend's home, and he had forgotten to remove the gun from his book bag. He said he noticed the gun in his book bag early in the day, but didn't tell any faculty members out of fear of getting in trouble, the report states.
The student said he only told a fellow student about the gun, police say.
Authorities said the gun was not loaded and was later destroyed.
The student has been suspended from school for five days, school officials say.
