MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mount Pleasant leaders broke ground Monday morning for a new road that will be named for former mayor Billy Swails.
Swails was the town's mayor from 2009-2013.
The road is being constructed near the new Jennie Moore Elementary School on Hamlin Road. Officials say the road will run from Hamlin Road to Porcher Bluff Road.
The $7 million price tag will be paid for by both the Town of Mount Pleasant and the Charleston County School District.
It is expected to be completed in June, 2015.
