Mount Pleasant breaks ground on new fire station

Mount Pleasant city leaders gather Tuesday morning to break ground on a new fire station, Fire Station #6.

The first shovels hit the dirt, beginning a year long project. Crews are expected to be moved in by November 2015.

Fire Chief Herbert Williams says this station will serve the North part of Mount Pleasant.

It will sit in Carolina Park, across from Wando High School.

City leaders feel it's a testament to the immense growth Mount Pleasant is seeing.

"It is growing fast and it is a need that we are able to give to the citizens here," said Chief Williams. "Not only will it provide fire protection. But, it will also have a police precinct inside of it. We'll be able to also increase our police presence on this side of town."
