CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 25-year-old man has been sentenced for the August, 2012 murder of a West Ashley woman.
Reginald L. Gordon was found guilty of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and received a sentence of 30 years and 5 years respectively.
Prosecutors say Gordon fatally shot Dominque Grant at a Ravenel nightclub in 2012 "with malicious intent and without just provocation," according to court documents.
Deputies responded to the scene on Aug. 18, 2012, and discovered Grant behind the wheel of a car, and witnesses told deputies someone had shot the victim and immediately fled the scene, documents state.
Approximately 13 minutes after the shooting, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance at a gas station on Main Road, approximately five miles from the scene of the shooting and found a partially-loaded .40 caliber gun in a white Buick. Deputies say a witness identified Gordon from a photo lineup and stated Gordon was the sole occupant of that car.
Gordon was arrested for the murder in February of last year.
Other witnesses stated Gordon had been at a different nightclub earlier the same evening that Grant had been murdered and said he had been socializing with subjects that had a dispute with Grant's acquaintances, court documents state. Deputies also said witnesses placed Gordon at the scene of the fatal shooting that evening and that another witnesses stated he saw Gordon in possession of a black handgun.
