CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A new Coast Guard ship is coming home to Charleston.
The Coast Guard Cutter Hamilton will arrive at its homeport in the Charleston Harbor Monday morning. USCGC Hamilton will be the first National Security Cutter to be stationed on the Eastern Seaboard, and is the fourth of eight planned NSC of the Legend-class cutter fleet.
This is the sixth Coast Guard cutter to be named after Alexander Hamilton. As the first Secretary of the Treasury, Hamilton prompted Congress to the create the Revenue Cutter Service, which merged with the United States Life-Saving Service in 1915 to for the Coast Guard.
