CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - If you're in town hosting Thanksgiving, downtown Charleston's Market Street will be a popular destination this weekend.
"Different experience from the crowded malls."
"For everybody that goes out of town, there's somebody that comes into town and more."
Charleston Carriage Works' owner, Broderick Christoff, says Thanksgiving weekend is on par with Easter weekend, which Christoff is their most popular and profitable.
"We see a lot of big groups and families come down, groups of eight, ten, 12. Sometimes we will have groups that will take entire carriages. We're really busy."
He says people who have family and friends in town, love to show off downtown.
"They can all be together on the carriage, and they can hear a little bit about Charleston and have a good time."
"It will be very busy down here, not only are people visiting Charleston, but they are visiting relatives who are proud to bring them downtown and show them the City Market," says manager Barry Newton.
Newton says they are open on Thanksgiving and about 60 percent of their vendors will be set up for the late afternoon and early evening crowds.
"Majority of them make their own products from the sweet grass vendors to potters to leather works, you name it. It's a great place to come and find that local product."
City Market will have extended hours on Friday and Saturday, staying open until 10:30 p.m. Charleston Carriage Works will be closed Thursday and open on Friday.
