CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Coast Guard's 7th district commander temporarily relieved Coast Guard Sector Charleston's commanding officer of command duties.
Rear Adm. Jake Korn reassigned Capt. Ric Rodriguez on Monday because of "a loss of confidence in his abilities to command," according to Coast Guard spokesperson Marilyn Fajardo.
Executive Officer Cmdr. Brian Falk, assumed temporary command of Sector Charleston.
As sector commander, Falk will lead more than 700 active duty, reserve and civilian men and women to conduct all Coast Guard missions in South Carolina and Georgia.
Rodriguez took command in July 2013, Fajardo said, and has been reassigned to Coast Guard Atlantic Area Command in Portsmouth, Va., Coast Guard officials say.
Sector Charleston is the regional operational command overseeing Coast Guard activities across South Carolina and Georgia. The sector includes 11 field units and more than 1,629 active duty, reserve, civilian and auxiliary personnel.
