Five injured following police-involved accident downtown

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says an accident involving a Charleston Police cruiser resulted in five people being taken to the hospital Monday afternoon.

Troopers say the collision was reported at 3:25 p.m. at the intersection of Line and Meeting Streets.

According to the Highway Patrol, an officer was turning onto Meeting Street with his or her blue lights activated when the cruiser was struck by a car carrying two passengers.

The police cruiser then hit another vehicle that also carried two passengers.

Line Street was blocked off in both directions as a result of the accident.

Troopers say all of those involved were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
