A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the November 25 armed robbery of a downtown Charleston dollar store.

DeWayne Leroy Harrell, of North Charleston, has been charged with armed robbery, property crime enhancement, and possession of a knife during a violent crime.

Charleston police say Harrell approached the counter of Family Dollar, located at 478 Meeting Street, around 8:30 p.m. as if he were going to make a purchase. When the employee opened the cash register, Harrell revealed a large kitchen knife and told the employee to get back.

Harrell then reportedly grabbed money out of the register and fled the scene.

Harrell is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
