MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Dozens of additional law enforcement officers will be on duty next Memorial Day weekend to maintain order during the Atlantic Beach Bikefest.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports while the total number has not yet been determined, at least 130 additional officers from the State Law Enforcement Division and the Highway Patrol combined will be in the area.
The newspaper reports SLED will send 192 officers - up from 81 last Memorial Day. The Highway Patrol will send an additional 50 officers and will have just over 200 on scene.
Officials have been working on a safety plan following violence that left three dead in Myrtle Beach last Memorial Day weekend.
Authorities have proposed a 23-mile, one-way traffic loop to control traffic at night during the long weekend.
