JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Wednesday night, lane closures start on Harbor View Road on James Island.
It's part of a road construction project on the road from North Shore Drive to Affirmation Boulevard to widen the road and add turn lanes and traffic lights to help traffic.
"It's gotten terrible in the last five years," Ryan Malphrus, who has lived on the road for 40 years said.
"It'll be a hassle getting it done and I'm not looking forward to anymore traffic," Malphrus said.
The lane closures will continue till December 15 and be between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights and 7 p.m. and 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
"I don't think it's going to help traffic," Malphrus said. "It might help the flow of it because the fact that you'll have turn lanes on the road."
Malphrus said the most needed part of the project is more room for bikers and fixing potholes.
"These people are going to get killed out her on these bicycles because they don't have anywhere to get off the road," Malphrus said. "The roads are all tore up. We've got potholes in this road that tears your car up."
Malphrus says he's hoping the project is an improvement.
"Get the roads fixed," Malphrus said. "I mean we've got the sorriest roads in the world."
The full project is expected to be completed in September of 2016
