ADAMS RUN, SC (WCSC) - An Edisto Island man who was shot after allegedly breaking in to a home and threatening to kill a woman inside was arrested over the weekend.
Rogelio Ramirez Castillo, 39, has been charged with burglary and criminal domestic violence 1st.
Charleston County deputies say the incident occurred on December 9 at a home on Spring Grove Road in Adam's Run at 6:12 a.m.
A man at the scene told deputies he was inside the home with his roommate when Castillo shattered a back door window and got into the home. The man said he fired a shotgun at the suspect twice, and then ran next door to his roommate's brother's house for help.
While the man ran to get help, the victim reportedly hid in a closet. She says she could hear Castillo searching throughout the home, yelling that he was going to kill her if he found her.
When the two men returned to the residence, the Castillo reportedly came out the front door towards them yelling. That is when the victim's brother says he shot the subject in the right knee, and then held him at gunpoint until authorities arrived.
Deputies say they arrived to find Castillo face down on the ground, with the victim's brother about 20 feet away with his hands in the air. His weapon was sitting unloaded on the hood of a nearby car.
Castillo was transported to MUSC to receive treatment for the gunshot wound.
According to the report, the victim's roommate and brother were taken in for questioning. It was determined they acted in self-defense.
Castillo is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center. His bond was set at $77,505.
