Mt. Pleasant votes on plan for handling future growth

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - The Mt. Pleasant Town Council voted on two controversial ordinances Tuesday night.

The council voted 8 to 1 for the planning committee to hold meetings with businesses, developers, and the Chamber of Commerce to decide on future development projects.

Originally council was looking at a citizen task force made up of both developers and citizens that would be appointed by the mayor.

The goal of the new board, which passed first reading but will come back to council, is to give the proper amount of time to do research before projects are approved.

Gary Santos was the lone "no" vote and said he favored the plan of a citizen task force instead of meetings with businesses.

The council also voted 6 to 3 to change its rules for putting items on the council agenda. Right now, it only takes one council member to put something on the agenda, but the new ordinance would require three council members to agree to put something on the agenda.
