JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A bond hearing is scheduled Wednesday morning for a 17-year-old accused of fatally shooting a James Island man over the weekend.
CCSO officials say Clifford Malcolm Whaley Jr. turned himself in to detectives at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He is expected to have a bond hearing Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Whaley was wanted on warrants for murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection to a Saturday evening shooting that took the life of 43-year-old Irvin Green of James Island.
On Saturday, deputies responded to a home on Holly Hill Road for a shooting victim. Witnesses told investigators they rushed over to the home after hearing several gun shots.
When the witnesses arrived, they reported seeing Whaley on top of the victim fighting him.
An affidavit states that it was confirmed through a photographic line-up that Whaley was the person in possession of the gun immediately after the shots were fired.
Witnesses said after the victim was shot, Whaley was seen leaving the scene on foot headed toward a wooded area.
Investigators say the victim, who was struck by three bullets, was transported to MUSC where he died.
