GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Goose Creek police continue to investigate after a pedestrian was struck Wednesday while walking across St. James Avenue, resulting in severe injuries.
Police say the incident occurred around 6:37 p.m. in the westbound lanes of St. James Avenue near Westview Boulevard. Officers arrived to find the victim lying in the roadway convulsing, with blood coming from his mouth.
A witness told officers the victim began walking across the road in the crossway without looking to see if traffic was coming. Cars braked to avoid hitting the pedestrian, but one vehicle that attempted to swerve out the way struck the victim.
According to an incident report, the driver involved in the accident said he was moving with traffic when he noticed vehicles braking suddenly. As he got closer to the vehicles, the pedestrian walked into his lane.
The victim was airlifted to MUSC due to head injures, where he was placed in the ICU in critical condition, according to Goose Creek police.
The investigation is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
