COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department say a fire that destroyed a home in the Green Pond area appears to have been intentionally set.
Emergency officials were called out Wednesday evening to a fire at a vacant home on the 4000 block of Wiggins Road.
The Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department say the fire extended into a wooded area near the home which was in a remote rural area.
A tractor was requested from the Forestry Commission to assist in combating the blaze. According to CCFR officials, the Forest Commission plowed a fire line around the property to contain the woods fire.
Firefighters knocked down the heavy flames within 25 minutes, but were on the scene for four hours performing overhaul.
CCFR officials reported that that home had no power connected, and the fire was apparently intentionally set. Officials with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office say they are investigating the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to call the fire and rescue headquarters at (843) 539-1960 or the sheriff's office at (843) 549-2211.
