BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Coroner's Office has identified a pedestrian and a bicyclist that were killed in separate accidents involving vehicles Thursday evening.
The first accident happened around 6:45 p.m. in Moncks Corner on South Live Oak Drive off of Highway 17 A.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury says 49-year-old Edward Williams was struck by a car heading south on the highway. The accident caused Williams to go into northbound lanes, where the victim was hit by two more cars in the median.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of massive body trauma. His death was ruled accidental.
All three drivers were wearing seat belts and were not injured in the accident.
The second accident occurred in the area of Liberty Hall Road and Lindy Creek Road in Goose Creek around 7:23 p.m. Officials say a 55-year-old Matthew Link was traveling west on Liberty Hall Road on a bicycle when he collided with a car heading east.
Troopers say Link was trying to change lanes when he was hit.
Link was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. His death was also ruled accidental.
The driver involved in that accident was not injured, and was wearing a seat belt.
South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the accidents.
