Deputies investigating Ladson convenience store armed robbery

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County deputies are investigating an early morning armed robbery at a convenience store.

According to an incident report, deputies were called out to the Scotchman Store on Highway 78 at Von Oshen Road in Ladson Tuesday just before 3:50 a.m.

An employee told deputies the suspect walked into the store and asked for change. After telling the suspect the register would only open if something was purchased, the suspect attempted to buy a pack of Newport cigarettes with a fake $20 bill, which the employee denied.

The suspect then reportedly told the employee he was going to kill her if she didn't open the drawer.

The report states the suspect pulled out an unknown object, walked behind the counter, and pushed buttons on the cash register until it opened.

Deputies say the suspect snagged $50 and a pack of Newport cigarettes before leaving the scene alone in a 2004-2007 black Chevrolet Impala.

The suspect is described as being a black male, wearing a brown coat, black hat, brown boots, and blue pants.
