WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A West Ashley neighborhood's annual Christmas golf cart parade won't happen after all this year.
This year's parade is being canceled because of the weather, Sylvan Shores Neighborhood Association President Wayne Murrah said in an email to neighbors.
"Be assured, though, that the parade will go on in the future, with a strong feeling by its participants that it should be named in memory of Frank Worsham, its originator and leader," Murrah said in the email.
Worsham died suddenly on Dec. 19, less than a week after his custom golf cart was stolen along with one other cart.
Worsham said he was born in 1957 and that a 1957 Chevy was his first car, so he customized the cart to look like a '57 Chevy.
Worsham and a friend had the idea to drive around the neighborhood in the golf cart to spread holiday cheer, and over the years, more and more people joined in, causing it to grow into a parade of more than 20 golf carts every Christmas Eve.
Anyone whose carts are already decorated are welcome to drive them trough the neighborhood on their own, the email states.
Neighbors will still gather for an after-party celebration as planned, Murrah said.
