BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County deputies say that a man has been arrested after attempting to drive away from three different deputy cars.

Officials say that around 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning in the Sangaree area, a deputy attempted to pull over a Jeep SUV , when the driver backed into the deputy's vehicle and proceeded to drive on to I-26.

The driver then turned on to Jedburg Road, then to Starline Drive, drove down Sheep Island Road to North Main Street, and then turned on to Highway 17A per Dan Moon.

Another deputy on the highway attempted to pull out from North Main Street to stop the Jeep, but was also hit by the car, causing the deputy's vehicle to spin into the Tractor Supply parking lot fence and catch on fire.

The driver then took North Main to I-26, turned on to Black Tom Road, where he was confronted by another deputy vehicle.

Deputies say the driver was followed to the intersection of Queenie Road and Black Tom Road.

Officials say the driver then jumped out of the Jeep and attempted to run away, leaving behind another female passenger.

Deputies arrested 28 year old Clinton Joseph Clark and have charged him with possession of a stolen car from Columbia, aggravated assault, speeding, and failure to stop for an officer.
