JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a 50-year-old man accused of taking out a gun and threatening to shoot a man he had hired to paint his porch on James Island.
The Charleston Police Department arrested Kent Waddy and charged him with pointing a firearm.
On Monday night, police responded to a home on Battery Island Drive for a report of someone pointing a gun at someone.
The victim told authorities that he went to a home on Westway Drive to give a quote on painting a porch, and gave the quote to Waddy and his mother.
Police say the victim then returned home and after 15 minutes, Waddy showed up at his home.
A CPD report states the victim and Waddy then talked on the front porch, and at one point Waddy began yelling at the victim about harassing his mother.
The victim said he could not remember exactly what was said, but Waddy became aggressive and used expletives which caused the victim to fear for his safety.
Investigators say Waddy then went to his truck, took out a small firearm and continued to yell aggressively at the victim.
According to a police report, Waddy said,"If you don't leave my mother alone, I'll shoot you."
The victim told officers that Waddy was waiving the gun around and pointing it in his general direction.
CPD officials say when Waddy got back into his vehicle and fled the scene, the victim called police.
