Charleston man accused of threatening to kill bartender, burn down bar

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say a 43-year-old Charleston man is behind bars after he threatened to kill a bartender and burn down a bar in West Ashley.

Charleston investigators arrested Robert Shannon Lord and charged him with five counts for open threats.

On Monday night, police responded to the 61 Pub on 2366 Ashley River Rd. in reference to a disturbance. Officers reported that they located Lord, who was screaming at several people, and escorted him out of the business.

A bartender said Lord came into the bar extremely angry, screaming and using profanity.

According to the bartender, Lord was upset because police were called on him the previous night for another disturbance at the bar.

According to a Charleston police report, Lord said he was going to kill the bartender for calling the cops on him and burn the business. Police say Lord also threatened the bartender with a beer bottle, thrusting it towards her as if he was going to hit her.

A second victim said she got between the bartender and Lord in attempt to keep him away. A police report states Lord then began to thrust the beer bottle several times at the second victim.

Three other victims reported to police they were also threatened by Lord.

CPD officials say surveillance video showed Lord taking a bottle, beating it towards a wooden table as if he was trying to break it and thrusting the bottle towards several people.

Investigators reported video also showed Lord grabbing a man's shirt and forcing him against a wall. Officers say a man is then seen grabbing Lord in order to pull him off.
