WEST ASHLEY SC (WCSC) - A West Ashley couple is celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on New Year's Eve, and say they look forward to celebrating their 76th next year!
David, 97, and 94-year-old Dorothy Colebaugh were married on Dec. 31, 1939.
The couple says the secret to the longevity of their marriage is "family and travel."
"Mutual admiration for each other and a wonderful family," David said."Especially with three beautiful and smart daughters."
Dorothy also attributes their successful marriage to travel,"David traveled sometimes 3 weeks at a time!"
The couple's daughter, Carol Battles, says her parents also traveled throughout the world.
David and Dorothy, originally from Altoon, Pa., met when they were teenagers and eventually had three daughters, eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
"My sisters and I are blessed to have our parents with us and still be active," Battles said."Dad loves to hunt and mother loves to play scrabble and to have a 'girls day out' with her daughters."
"It means so much that Dorothy and I are able to live on our own and that we have faith in each other," David said."We look forward to celebrating our 76th next year!"
Battles said her parents plan to celebrate their anniversary with family and friends from the area and out-of-town.
