CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

For several police agencies in the Tri- County area, 2014 will end with some unsolved murders on the books.

Here's a breakdown of the number of murders for the year and how many are still unsolved.

The City of North Charleston reports 12 murders this year. Six of those murders are unsolved.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office tells me their office has investigated 10 murders in 2014. Only one of them is unsolved.

The City of Charleston Police Department reports nine murders this year. Officials told Live 5 News' Harve Jacobs  told four of them are unsolved.

The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office tells me they have had eight murders in 2014. Six of them are unsolved.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office says their deputies investigated seven murders this year. Only one is unsolved.

The Hanahan and Summerville Police Departments each investigated one murder this year and both are unsolved.

Goose Creek and Moncks Corner Police also had one murder investigation.

Arrests were made in both cases.

Some of the police agencies told us they have identified possible suspects in some of their murder cases.

However witnesses refuse to come forward, making it more difficult to make an arrest.
