CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The National Weather Service canceled a tornado watch that had been in effect until 6 p.m.
The watch, issued shortly after 11:30 a.m., had been in effect for 11 counties in South Carolina, including Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper Counties. Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell and Orangeburg Counties were also part of the watch area, along with more than 40 counties in Georgia.
The watch was prompted by a powerful storm system that moved across the area on Sunday afternoon.
Meteorologist Brad Miller said heavy rain was still being observed throughout the area as the last of the system moved through.
A tornado warning had been issued for Jasper and Beaufort Counties, but that warning expired at 4:15 p.m.
