MPPD: No charges filed in fatal IOP Connector wreck

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Mt. Pleasant police say no charges will be filed in the Tuesday morning collision that took the life of a 62-year-old woman on the Isle of Palms Connector.

Officials say Alicia Gray was driving on a moped that collided with a vehicle just after 10 a.m. at the IOP Connector and Rifle Range Road. She was transported to MUSC in critical condition, where she died later in the day from blunt force trauma.

According to Mt Pleasant police, a vehicle was driving north on Rifle Range Road and Gray was driving south on her moped. Both parties attempted to turn onto the Isle of Palms Connector heading towards Isle of Palms at the same time.

The moped driver, who was turning left onto the Connector, reportedly drifted into the far lane striking the vehicles driver's side door.

An investigation determined the moped driver was at fault for the accident, police say.

The IOP Connector heading towards the Isle of Palms was closed for roughly three hours while crews responded to the wreck.
