Cops: James Island gun thief behind bars after leaving driver's license at scene

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston investigators say a 22-year-old man accused of stealing guns from a James Island home is behind bars after officers found his driver's license at the scene.

Officers arrested Christopher Patrick Catanach of James Island on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree burglary and grand larceny.

Catanach's arrest stems from an incident on Jan. 1 when police responded to a home on River Haven Circle for a burglary.

The victim said when he arrived home, he observed that the glass in his back door had been shattered, and noticed that several of his guns had been taken along with hunting equipment and debit cards.

As police were searching the home, an officer found a driver's license belonging to Catanach directly under a window which had its screen removed.

Investigators say they also located a brick which had been used to break the back door.
