Coroner IDs pedestrian fatally struck in West Ashley

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office has identified a 68-year-old pedestrian who was fatally struck Tuesday night in West Ashley.

Officials say Danny Ellis, of Charleston, died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Charleston police officials say the accident happened around 8:10 p.m. on Highway 61 between Magnolia and Old Towne roads.

According to an incident report, Ellis was crossing Highway 61 outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by a vehicle.

The victim was rushed to MUSC with severe injuries while police officers closed a portion of the road and investigated the incident.

No charges are currently being filed against the driver, according to a representative with the Charleston Police Department.

The incident remains under investigation.
