MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - More than 200 Ohio State alumni watched the first College Football Playoff National Championship game at Sparians in Mt. Pleasant Monday night.
The local alumni chapter house watches games at Sparians every weekend, and averages about 150 people. The alumni chapter says they have so many fans in the lowcountry, they've started to call Charleston little Ohio.
"While there are many more Carolina and Clemson fans in the area than we have, we have one of the largest groups to get together in one place," Barry Thomas, the treasurer of the alumni club said.
"We have to be around one another because we're too obnoxious to be around ordinary fans," Gregg Hoffman, an OSU graduate said.
Besides watching games, the alumni chapter has raises tens of thousands of dollars for scholarships and is currently paying for three Charleston-area students to attend OSU.
