Suspect sought in Edisto Island attempted armed robbery

EDISTO ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - The Edisto Island Police Department is continuing to investigate a December attempted armed robbery in which the victim was able to wrestle a knife away from the suspect.

Authorities say the incident occurred December 16, 2014 around 6 p.m. in the area of Palmetto Boulevard.

According to police, the victim was in a utility room outside of the home when he was approached by a male suspect wearing a mask and holding a knife. The suspect demanded money.

Police say a struggle broke out, during which the victim was able to wrestle the knife away from the suspect and pull up his shirt, causing the suspect's mask to come off. The suspect then fled the scene.

The victim did not recognize the suspect, who is described as a black male in his early twenties, approximately 5'9" and around 140-150 pounds.

According to Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry, officials are distributing fliers in the area in an attempt to identify the suspect.
