Police: Hwy. 17 reopens after truck takes down power lines

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

All north and southbound lanes of Highway 17 are reopen in Mount Pleasant after a truck knocked down power lines on Friday afternoon.

Mount Pleasant police confirmed all of Highway 17 is open again.

The final portion of the roadway that remained closed as of shortly before 6 p.m. had been the area between Northcutt and Shelmore. That portion was reported as having reopened shortly at approximately 6:23 p.m.

Police say a dump truck knocked down power lines in the area, also knocking traffic lights offline.

Initially, north and southbound lanes of Highway 17 between Northcutt and Bowman Roads, Highway 17 at Anna Knapp Boulevard and the Johnny Dodds frontage road were also closed.
