NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 15-year-old faces a murder charge in connection with a shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old early Sunday morning.
Travis Brown, 16, died as the result of a gunshot wound, according to Charleston County Dep. Coroner Kimberly Rhoton.
The 15-year-old suspect, who was not identified because of his age, was arrested and charged with murder, North Charleston Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m., in front of a building at the Fairwind Apartments according to an incident report. When officers arrived they found the victim near the stairs of the complex, the report states. Witnesses told police, "They shot him," but could not provide a description of the gunman.
Investigators say the victim was attending a party at an apartment in the complex. Witnesses told police some type of disturbance occurred between the victim and the suspect resulting in a shooting in the parking lot.
Police discovered a black revolver with a wooden handle near trees on the side of the building, the report states.
A short time later, a woman reported that her car had been hit during the incident in the front passenger door, the report states.
The teen suspect remains in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, Pryor said.
