SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A logging truck apparently hit a school bus's mirror as it passed by Wednesday morning, causing minor damage to the bus but no injuries to the children aboard, district officials say.
The incident occurred on Parsons Road and none of the students, who were on their way to Summerville Elementary School at the time, were injured, according to Dorchester District 2 spokesperson Pat Raynor.
"The assistant principal was on the scene in minutes, along with the the district transportation director," Raynor said. "The students were all checked and no one was hurt."
Students were forced to wait on the bus until the Highway Patrol arrived to investigate, Raynor said, but were then transported to school, given breakfast, checked over by school authorities and then allowed to go to class.
The Highway Patrol is called to investigate any accidents involving school buses, Raynor said.
The bus driver didn't initially realize the bus had been struck and it is likely the logging truck driver was unaware as well, Raynor said.
