CCSO returns to Johns Island property to relocate horses after animals found in poor condition

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say deputies returned to a Johns Island property where three horses in poor condition had been taken away last week.

According to CCSO officials, deputies were at the home on Plowground Road on Tuesday helping the owner to relocate the remaining horses that she is unable to take care of.

On Jan. 22, a CCSO deputy responded to the property after receiving a report of horses being neglected. The deputy reported locating three horses that were in "poor condition," along with a foal near the back of the property.

Susan Rebecca Housley, the owner of the horses, told the deputy that she fed her horses twice a day and was not sure why they were not gaining weight.

Housley was issued two citations for ill treatment of an animal.

Animal Control deputies then got a court order and seized three horses on Jan. 23. The horses are being treated by the Charleston Animal Society.
