Funeral services set for Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire chief

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) -

Funeral services have been set for the Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Chief Michael Haines, who died early Thursday morning.

The department confirmed Haines' funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Stuhr's Funeral Home's Northwoods Chapel at 2180 Greenridge Rd. in North Charleston. There will be no graveside service.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Stuhr's from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., the department said. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.

Haines served with the department since Dec. 1, 1973, according to its website.

The department is a combination paid/volunteer fire department located in Berkeley County, and its primary coverage area is the unincorporated areas of Goose Creek, the website states.

    If the final reading of a proposed James Island ordinance passes on Thursday night, it would prohibit people from loitering outside restaurants, sleeping in parks and make it against the law for people to sleep in their cars or campers in parking lots.
