Sports bars win off the field on Super Bowl Sunday

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - As big as the Super Bowl is for football fans, it might be even bigger for bars.

According to the National Chicken Council, Americans eat an estimated 1.25 billion wings on Super Bowl Sunday.

Charleston Beer Works on King Street is a Boston sports bar, and its owner say he ordered three times as many wings as normal to keep up with demand.

The bar sold tickets for their Super Bowl party for $20 to make sure everyone got a seat and didn't open till 4:00 PM for crowd control.

"It's been a good run and now the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl," Tim Maahs, the owner of Charleston Beer Works said. "We're still busy even when the Patriots aren't in the Super Bowl but when they make it, the flood gates kind of open. Being a sports bar, it's a pretty big day."

The National Retail Federation estimates that people will spend $14 billion for their Super Bowl party, whether it's at a bar or at home.
