LADSON, SC (WCSC) - A 34-year-old man is behind bars accused of robbing a man and raping a woman at a home in Ladson.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office arrested Clifford Melvin Bickham III and charged him with armed robbery, kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
On Saturday morning, deputies responded to a home on Clovewood Street regarding an assault and robbery.
The 18-year-old male victim said between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m, he and a friend were hanging out at the home with a person he recently met.
A Charleston County Sheriff's Office report states that during that time, a man arrived and robbed the male victim at gunpoint and raped an 18-year-old woman who was passed out on the couch.
An affidavit states the female victim woke up, fought the suspect off, and both she and the male victim fled the home and called the sheriff's office.
While the deputies were investigating, they saw a man involved in a nearby verbal altercation on Donwood Circle.
As the man walked away from the scene, investigators said they noticed that he was wearing clothing consistent with the description given by one of the victims who subsequently identified the man as the suspect.
Deputies then detained the man, later identified as Bickham.
When authorities investigated the Donwood Circle home where Bickham was spotted, they learned it was his home and received consent from the suspect's mother to search the home.
Deputies seized clothing and boots belonging to Bickham which were found in a front room.
Bickham was given a $250,000 bond.
