CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 63-year-old man is facing several charges of criminal sexual conduct after a victim told authorities he was sexually assaulted by the suspect over a period of nine years beginning in 1982.
Earl Darrell Linder was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree, and two counts of criminal sexual conduct second degree.
According to an incident report, the victim contacted Charleston County deputies in August 2014 to report the sexual assaults. Affidavits state the incidents began in 1982 when the victim was six years old, and continued until he was fifteen.
The victim told authorities Linder sexually assaulted him "three to four times a week." The incidents began with Linder having the young victim participate in inappropriate touching and messaging, and later escalated to performing sexual acts, court records state.
Investigators say the victim went along with the acts because Linder threatened him with punishment, which included more sexual assaults and violence.
In August 2008, Linder was investigated for the same type of crime involving a different victim. Officials say he confessed to the sexual assault in writing, and was charged with criminal sexual conduct second degree, criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11, and lewd act on a child under 14.
In that incident, Linder was released on a $210,000 bond.
Linder is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
