Report: Caregiver made $619 in purchases on elderly man's credit card

MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) -

Mt. Pleasant police say a 32-year-old woman hired to provide care to a man in his nineties has been arrested after using his credit card to make over $600 in purchases. 

Ceonna Contreras was arrested Thursday morning and charged with exploiting a vulnerable adult. 

According to an incident report, police were first alerted to the the alleged fraud on October 4, 2014. 

The 94-year-old victim told police he learned Contreras used his USAA credit card to rack up $619.56 in purchases on the Amazon Market Place, with the charges beginning on September 23. 

Before calling the authorities, the victim said he sat down with Contreras and made arrangements for her to pay him back, but she never made any payments.

Contreras is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
