CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -  SCE&G officials say power has been restored to customers in West Ashley after a truck collided with a power pole Monday morning.

SCE&G spokesperson Kim Asbill says a contractor truck hit a power pole outside of West Ashley Middle School on William Kennerty Drive around 7:30 a.m., resulting in a power outage at the school and at several hundred homes in the area.

Officials say over 1,600 customers lost power.

Charleston County School District announced West Ashley Middle School will be closed Monday due to the outage. The same power pole was hit by a school bus on January 30, resulting in an early dismissal for students.

Monday's collision also resulted in downed power lines near the intersection of Highway 61 and Tobias Gadson Blvd.

Officials announced around 10:30 a.m. that all power had been restored, and the power lines have been fixed.
