CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Sanders Clyde Elementary School dismissed students early Monday as a result of a power outage, school district officials said.
Students dismissed at 1:15 p.m. after school officials canceled expanded learning, according to district spokesperson Erica Taylor.
Parents were forced to make arrangements to pick up their children, and buses left the school for the normal routes at the same time.
According to SCE&G, the outage was caused by a squirrel that ate through a power cable. Only the school was affected by this outage, the utility said.
Earlier Monday morning, West Ashley Middle School was forced to cancel classes after a contractor's truck collided with a power pole in front of the school along William Kennerty Drive. The accident knocked 1,600 customers in the area, including the school, offline.
The same power pole was hit by a school bus on January 30.
