Gas prices expected to increase through February

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - AAA reports cheap gas prices may soon be a thing of the past.

The first week of February saw a price jump of more than 10 cents per gallon.

Experts expect that number will continue to rise.

According to AAA, the average price of gas for regular unleaded in South Carolina is $1.96. The average around the Lowcountry is $2.00.

AAA expects gas prices to increase through February due to refinery maintenance and decreased production.

Experts say it is not uncommon for gas prices to increase between early February and the middle of Spring.

AAA does no expect the national average price of gas to rise above $3.00 in 2015.

At the beginning of February 2014, the average price per gallon in SC was $3.12.

The highest recorded average price of gas in SC was $4.12 in September, 2008.
