Charleston police say a 27-year-old man is behind bars in connection with five car break-ins after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
Bobby Eugene Warthaw, Jr., of North Charleston was arrested Wednesday and charged with five counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.
Police recovered DNA evidence at the scene of the Dec. 23, 2013 car break-ins at a West Ashley apartment complex, Francis said. Police say the break-ins occurred between 12:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. and the suspect took stereo systems, vehicle parts, clothing and electronic equipment.
That evidence was submitted to the State Law Enforcement Division, where investigators were able to match the DNA to Warthaw from DNA on file in the Combined DNA Index System, Francis said.
Warthaw was being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
