One dead after single-car accident in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities say one person is dead, another hospitalized after a car accident in Berkeley County early Saturday morning.

Berkeley County officials say around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a sedan was traveling on Clements Ferry Road, when the car ran off the left side of the road and struck several trees.

The Berkeley County Chief Deputy Coroner identified the victim as 23-year-old William James Detyens III of Charleston. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle was transported to MUSC. His condition is unknown at this time.

Officials say the death is ruled as an accident and was investigated by the Berkeley County Coroner's Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
