NEW YORK CITY, NY (WCSC) - A senior at South Carolina State University took her fight for the school all the way to the Big Apple, where she recruited a couple celebrities to join the cause.
Hirut Kollech spent the weekend at the NBA All-Star Game in New York City. She created a 15-second pitch to get a few famous faces to help stand up for the school.
Actor and comedian Anthony Anderson showed his support for the troubled university in Orangeburg, as did ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith.
Kollech says that because both men attended historically black colleges, they did not hesitate to show their support for South Carolina State by taking pictures with a sign that read "I SUPPORT SCSU!!!!" and #SAVESCSTATE.
Last week, a House panel passed a proposal to temporarily close SC State for a massive overhaul, then reopen it in 2017.
The SC State senior say she got the idea after her mom, an SC State alum, encouraged her to think outside of the box.
The two photos are now making their way around social media.
