NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A North Charleston police officer said a dinner date with his daughters turned out to be much more after a couple spotted their outing.
Officer Maurice Taylor said he was out with his young twin daughters, Avia and Evia, at a Denny's for a Valentine's date when a woman noticed them.
According to Taylor, the woman's husband then approached their table and said that his wife had lost her father in the line of duty, and when his wife saw Taylor with his daughters, it cheered her up.
"[The husband] first tried to pay and I said,'No thank you. This is a date with my daughters,'" Taylor said.
After the man offered just to pay for Taylor's daughters, Taylor said he agreed and deposited the money he was given to his daughters' bank accounts.
"It touched me dearly," said Tayor who has worked for the North Charleston Police Department for 3 and a 1/2 years."I am a veteran as well as a police officer who can see how children are filled with memories of their parents who served."
