CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina's ports continue to enjoy healthy growth with container volume up 18 percent in January compared with the same month last year.
The South Carolina Ports Authority board was told Wednesday that the ports handled container cargo that is the equivalent of almost 153,000 20-foot containers in January.
Since the beginning of the fiscal year last July, the ports have handled the equivalent of more than 1 million containers.
Because steel shipping containers are of different sizes, volume is reported in how many 20-foot containers the cargo would fill.
