JOHNS ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - A Johns Island man has been arrested and charged with a number of child sex crimes.
Shawn Michael Johnson was arrested on Wednesday and charged with criminal solicitation of a minor, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and dissemination of obscene material to a minor age 12 or younger.
Bond was set at $200,000. Johnson is not allowed to access the Internet, or to have unsupervised contact with children.
Investigators say they received a report that Johnson threatened a child and demanded she send him a nude photograph of herself.
On Dec. 1, 2014, investigators met with a woman who said her 11-year-old daughter sent nude photographs of herself to Johnson because he threatened to kill her if she did not comply.
The mother said Johnson gave their daughter an iPhone as a present six to eight weeks ago and just found out about the inappropriate activity that occurred.
According to the mother, Johnson went to her home and showed her the pictures he had of her daughter to make her aware of what she had done.
A Charleston County Sheriff's Office report states the mother asked Johnson to delete the photos in front of her to which he complied.
Deputies said when they asked Johnson about the photos, he said the photos were found on a photo stream and not directly sent to him. CCSO investigators say Johnson denied ever threatening the juvenile or asking for inappropriate photos.
According to authorities, numerous electronic devices were seized for forensic examination
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, made the arrest.
