NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - North Charleston police cited eight people for illegal gambling Thursday after multiple gambling machines were discovered in a grocery store off Rivers Avenue, according to the department.
Officials say the NCPD VICE unit began an investigation Wednesday into illegal gambling activities at Vereen's Grocery Store, located at 5012 Rivers Avenue.
Officers reportedly executed a search warrant at the grocery store on Thursday, seizing gambling machines and cash. Several patrons who were at the business gambling were cited.
Police say the following people were cited for illegal gambling:
- Johnny Porter Vereen (store owner)
- Barbara Shaw
- Linda Powell
- Sandra Smalls
- Melvene Hamilton
- John Nelson
- Derrelle Parker
- Brenda Nelson
Each suspect was fined $470, according to police.
