CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - With temperatures in Charleston hovering around the freezing point, the South Carolina Department of Transportation is not taking any chances when it comes to keeping area bridges safe for motorists.
Officials with the SCDOT say crews were sent late Tuesday morning to salt the Ravenel Bridge and the Don Holt Bridge. The two bridges, along with the Wando Bridge, were pretreated Monday night.
The National Weather Service issued a freezing rain advisory for Tuesday, which is in effect until 5 p.m. for most of the Lowcountry. Freezing rain falls as a liquid and freezes on contact with a cold surface.
The SCDOT has been monitoring road conditions throughout the state, and will continue to address the conditions as necessary.
